Lead Mechanical Engineer - Data Center in Johor

Provide successful delivery of engineering services to the client on the agreed site(s), ensuring performance of the site from an uptime, quality, compliance and health and safety perspective with a multi-disciplinary technical team.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver Data Center operations including the operation, maintenance and repair of all mission critical equipment and systems supporting a 24x7 data centre operation to achieve 100% uptime and 100% compliance with all customer SLAs, site certifications and legislative requirements.

  • Maintain 24/7 continuity of utilities: electrical, gas, air-conditioning, heating, water, sewerage, drainage, cleaning and waste management.

  • Complete assigned tasks with minimal disruption to the client and their customers.

  • Work closely with the Client to respond to, investigate and close out any service issues, escalating as needed to the Critical Facility Manager or Director.

  • Provide timely reporting for EHS and CARE and others.

  • Validate/verify supplier works and provide approval for invoice payments.

  • Manage utilities and resources in a sustainable way to promote more efficient use and minimize environmental impact.

  • Ensure site resources are efficiently managed including technical and non-technical staff, with coverage planned for all leave.

  • Manage, investigate and resolve complex technical issues and incidents, reporting to the Critical Facility Manager.

  • Assist in development and coordination of engineering design concepts or changes for the site.

  • Review equipment lifecycle and support annual OPEX and CAPEX planning to forecast future expenditure, ensuring works can be performed concurrently without interrupting the facility.

  • Prepare and maintain asset maintenance plans and tasks for new equipment and revised requirements.

  • Prepare and/or review change management procedures, maintain a library of switching and isolation procedures, and train staff as required.

  • Monitor and report on site mechanical and cooling capacities, ensuring services operate within design limits.

  • Provide coverage for Critical Facility Manager during absence or leave.

  • Develop and maintain knowledge of all critical assets and their interactions with other systems.

  • Prepare risk assessments, work plans and procedures to mitigate disruption during maintenance or upgrades.

  • Coordinate and prepare change requests per customer policies and SLAs.
  • Manage planned maintenance, repairs and upgrades with appropriate supervision; may include out-of-hours work as required.

  • Ensure plant and equipment operate efficiently and within parameters; participate in energy programs and monitor site PUE.

  • Manage repairs, replacement or upgrades of plant assets as per lifecycle plans or improvements.

  • Perform routine inspections of critical assets and assist with client audits by providing documentation.

  • Support site performance reporting (capacity utilization, site performance, risk registers, work orders/finance reports).

  • Manage PPM and reactive works; ensure work orders are closed within SLAs.
  • Raise work-orders to suppliers and manage payments via internal systems.

  • Ensure Critical Services Technicians are trained to respond to critical situations; comply with CBRE health and safety obligations.

  • Operate in a manner that minimizes environmental impact and comply with environmental policies.

  • Foster on-site client and stakeholder relations; ensure 100% compliance to agreed KPIs.
  • Ensure subcontractors perform per agreed scope and provide regular reporting.

  • Maintain electrical & mechanical infrastructure per manufacturers’ recommendations or SOWs.
  • Coordinate work permits and escalate for approvals as needed for business-critical systems.

  • Monitor risk assessments and supplier activities to ensure H&S compliance.

  • Manage contractors/suppliers to meet maintenance agreements/SLAs.
  • Develop, implement and audit local MOPs, SOPs, and EOPs; provide training as required.

  • Close out permits and provide end-of-day reports on outstanding permits.

  • Manage minor projects and admin for consultants/contractors for building repair and capital improvements.

  • Conduct rounds, safety inspections and report safety concerns, hazards, near misses and incidents.

  • Ensure compliance with local, state and federal regulatory requirements including environmental, building, fire, health & safety.

  • Support CMMS Operator in scheduling and closing work orders for internal and external technicians.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • More than 5 years of experience supporting a 24x7 data centre's / critical facilities management.

  • More than 3 years of experience in a mission critical environment.

  • Proven experience in the critical services industry.

  • Confined Space entry trained / AP where required.

  • Strong communication skills; ability to interact with all levels of staff.

  • Technically competent in building services, in particular UPS, generators, static switches, water treatment, refrigeration and air conditioning.

  • Ability to lead, motivate and direct a technical/engineering team.

  • Proactive in achieving high standards of operation.
