Overview

Lead Test Automation Engineer role at FINEXUS Group, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This position is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing scalable test automation solutions to support high-quality software delivery, mentoring engineers, and aligning testing strategies with development and business objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Lead test automation initiatives for the company’s core products (e.g., AREMA, Cardworks), ensuring alignment with business objectives and engineering strategy.

  • Identify areas that benefit from improved test automation and execute plans to achieve these improvements.

  • Cover multiple product modules and integration points, coordinating with backend, frontend, and DevOps teams.

  • Train technical QAs in test automation, including identifying needs for formal 3rd party training or courses.

  • Partner with Platform tech leads to help the company provide the best tech stack for test automation.

  • Consult or advise testing initiatives on other products as needed, with a focus on the assigned product.

  • Provide technical leadership to the test automation team by mentoring engineers, conducting code and strategy reviews, and fostering a high-performance culture.

  • Design and implement scalable test automation frameworks and strategies that drive quality, reliability, and efficiency across SDLC stages.

  • Oversee development, execution, and maintenance of robust, reusable automated test suites for functional, regression, and performance testing.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with QA, Development, DevOps, and Product teams to integrate automation into CI/CD pipelines and improve testability.

  • Plan and prioritize automation roadmaps, balancing short-term testing requirements with long-term goals and technical debt reduction.

  • Ensure comprehensive test coverage, identify gaps, and continuously improve test design, execution, and reporting processes.

  • Track and report key quality metrics and automation results to support release decisions and risk assessments.

  • Evaluate and adopt modern automation tools and technologies to keep automation infrastructure current and scalable.

  • Support release readiness by ensuring automated tests validate end-to-end business workflows and minimize regression risks in production.

  • Promote continuous improvement by championing test automation best practices, knowledge sharing, and technical innovation within QA.

Qualifications

  • Academic Qualification
    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

  • Professional Qualification (Optional)
    • ISTQB-CTFL (Certified Tester Foundation Level)
    • ISTQB-CT-TAE (Certified Tester Test Automation Engineer)
  • Min Years Of Experience
    • 7+ years in Quality Assurance (QA), with at least 4 years in Test Automation, OR 5+ years in Software Engineering with a focus on testing.

  • Experience In
    • Expertise in at least 2 key areas of testing – web, mobile, API/backend, security, performance.

    • Experience with testing platforms/frameworks such as Katalon, Playwright, Postman, Cypress, Appium, Robot Framework, Karate.

    • Proficient in programming languages (e.g., Java, JavaScript, Python, C, C#, Golang) and SQL queries.

    • Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Bitbucket, Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps) and integrating automation into pipelines.

  • Familiarity With
    • Modern tech stack and Agile development methodologies.

    • Software development and QA methodologies (Agile, Scrum, DevOps).

    • Testing types: functional, regression, performance, API, and UI testing.

    • Test management and defect tracking tools (e.g., JIRA, TestRail, Zephyr).

  • Leadership & Strategic Competencies
    • Proven ability to lead and manage a team of test automation engineers.

    • Experience in training and mentoring QAs/automation engineers.

    • Strong strategic thinking and ability to align automation goals with business objectives.

    • Experience setting standards, processes, and best practices for test automation.

    • Ability to prioritize automation efforts based on ROI and risk assessment.

    • Decision-making and problem-solving skills in complex technical and team environments.

  • Interpersonal & Soft Skills
    • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

    • Ability to mentor and coach junior team members, fostering collaboration and growth.

    • Adaptability in fast-paced environments and openness to new technologies.
